Shebana Coelho

Shebana Coelho is a writer, director, and filmmaker. She received a 2007 Fulbright grant to Mongolia to experience and record life in nomadic communities. She recently completed the radio documentary, On the Move in Mongolia, a series of sound portraits of Mongolian women. Her writing has been published in Chronogram magazine, New Mexico Mercury, Sin Fronteras journal, Word Riot, The Rag, the anthology Beyond Forgetting: Poetry and Prose about Alzheimer’s Disease (Kent University Press, foreword Tess Gallagher), National Public Radio’s On Being blog, Time Out Mumbai, and The O&P Edge. She received a 2004 Fiction Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and a 2005 Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist’s Fellowship. She has produced radio and TV documentaries for BBC Radio Four, NPR’s On the Media, the Discovery Channel and Nickelodeon. After being a nomad for many years, traveling through Mongolia, Mexico and South America, she now calls New Mexico home.
